First Meeting of the Southern West Virginia Chapter

This post was written by Stephen Duffy of +WV Woodshed (WV Woodshed), MWA member in West Virginia.

This post is simply a call for participation in the initial Southern West Virginia & South Western Virginia Chapter of the Modern Woodworkers Association. The meeting is to be held Saturday, June 15th at 10:00am. We anticipate the meeting will last 1 to 1-1/2 hours.

In the area I live there are currently a limited number of woodworking resources. The few that do exist are niche' or skill specific, as in carving, turning, etc. Through my website I have met other woodworkers interested in developing a local community for all skill sets to discuss and share information about their individual passions or anything and everything woodworking.

Ron Hart, Owner/Operator of Virginia Hardware (a Rockler Affiliate Store) has generously opened his doors to host our initial and subsequent meetings. This initial meeting will be geared towards setting up the group, organizing a schedule for future meetings and creating/brainstorming concepts for meeting topics and member participation. Some ideas for topics include:

1. What's On Your Bench
2. Cool Tools Used In Your Shop
3. Technique Of The Month
4. Show And Tell
5. Just Showing Off

The address for the meeting is:

Virginia Hardware (a Rockler Affiliate Store)
1411 N. Walker Street
Princeton, WV 24740

Contacts for information:

Stephen Duffy = wvwoodshed@gmail.com
Pat McNulty = pmcnulty@gmail.com

PLEASE COME, PARTICIPATE AND SHARE YOUR WOODWORKING KNOWLEDGE WITH OTHER LIKE-MINDED INDIVIDUALS!!! HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!
Until My Next Post...

Keep Your Mind On Your Fingers And Your Fingers On Your Hands!!!

MWA Podcast - Special Edition Episode with Paul Sellers

A few weeks ago The Woodworking Shows was here in Atlanta.  I had the chance to spend a lot of time with some great woodworkers both teaching and attending the show.  On Saturday morning I met Paul Sellers of paulsellers.com and Woodworking Masterclasses.  Paul and I met for breakfast and spent 3 hours just talking about woodworking.

I must say that I really didn't know a lot about Paul before talking with him, but after spending the morning with him I was really inspired by his career and visions.

I hope you enjoy this episode.

We Could Use A Little Help

Your help is appreciated.

For more than a year now, it's been our pleasure to help you enjoy your woodworking hobby. Whether it's the local MWA guild chapter meetings, educational opportunities at woodworking shows or the ever-popular podcast, we are always looking for new and better ways of reaching out to you.
Clearly, we need help.
While the work is fun, the hardest part of running the organization is paying for the overhead. There are hosting fees, printing expenses and the like to help further develop the organization. The Modern Woodworkers Association is committed to keeping membership and participation free for our members, and our plans have not changed.

That's why we are working on two (2) fronts to keep it that way. First, we are approaching a number of companies to see if they might be interested in sponsoring the show on an ongoing basis.  You may have already noticed the second way we are approaching this issue. On the right side of our page, you will see a new section for donations.  While you are under no obligation to make a contribution to the effort, we would greatly appreciate if you would be willing and able to make a contribution to keep the MWA growing.

We know that the MWA has become an important part of your woodworking, with more than 6,000 views and downloads of each podcast. And, we look forward to improving that service in our second year.

Thanks,
Modern Woodworkers
