Gents, I enjoy your podcasts. In #51 however I have a bit of an issue however. As you might expect, it concerns your discussion of Festool. I have a number of Festool tools, and some Bosch, and some DeWalt, etc.etc. etc. Because I use those different brands, I feel I can speak and compare them fairly. When Dyami spoke about Festool routers, though I disagreed with him, I felt his comments were valid because he's used Festool routers and other routers. He made a comparison based on use. I was most bothered however when Chris would start a statement with "Well I don't own any, but..." I don't think its fair to make broad judgment calls about products when haven't used them for a reasonable time. I love my Bosch mini hammer drill and I love my Festool CXS. It took a while to get to know each one.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really felt Dyami and Chris stifled Tom's opinion on this topic.
It's great to hear the dialog but, in my opinion, this time at least part of the conversation was about stuff you really aren't familiar with.
Chet,
DeleteThank you for the comment. Discussion like this is important for the community and we appreciate your participation.
Regarding our discussion, part of what I feel makes a community like the MWA strong is that we all have different experiences and different methods. I think Chris did well by giving his opinion and qualifying it by saying he has used, but does not own, any Festool products. I suspect that many of our listeners do not own a Festool products and theirs is a relevant voice (which I hope Chris captured).
As for Tom & Sean, we certainly didn't mean to stifle their comments. It's simply the result of an unscripted conversation. Sometimes not everyone is heard equally.
Thanks again for the comment. We'll keep working to make sure everyone's voice is heard.
