Woodworking in America 2016 WoodTalk/MWA Meetup

Popular Woodworking in America 2016 (WIA16) is almost upon us. As we get ready for the seminal woodworking conference, we've teamed up with +Marc Spagnuolo, +Matthew Cremona and +Shannon Rogers of +Wood Talk to setup an opening night meetup at Moerlein Lager House in Cincinnati.

If you've every attended a meetup at WIA, you'll already know how enjoyable an evening of food and drink with fellow woodworkers can be. If you've not yet attended a WIA meetup, or a WIA at all for that matter, you've been missing a wonderful time. Please come join us at Moerlein Lager House on Thursday, 9/15 after WIA registration. Everyone is welcome. We'll be having a much fun as you can without a table saw.

Well be starting at 5:00 pm. It will officially go until 8:00 pm, but keep any eye on social media, as I'm sure that things will continue after, either at Moerlein or elsewhere.

Lie-Nielsen is coming to Brooklyn

This weekend the Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Events are coming to Brooklyn. They'll be at 3rd Ward (195 Morgan Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11237) on Friday, 1/4, from 10:00 to 6:00 and on Saturday, 1/5, from 10:00 to 5:00.

Tools for Working Wood will be there, and they'll be open.

In addition to their own wonderful wares, Lie-Nielsen will be bring some top notch tool makers to Brooklyn with them. Daed Toolworks, M.S. Bickford, Guarino Furniture Designs, Northwest Woodworking Studio & Tools For Working Wood will be at 3rd Ward too. In fact, rumor has it +Matthew Kenney (of +Fine Woodworking) will be there too.

I'm going to try to make it on Friday afternoon, but don't wait for me. Check out the show (and say hi to Matt).

MWA Boston Chapter Meetup: Lie-Nielsen at the Furniture Institute of MA

MWA Boston Chapter Meetup: Dec 1st, 2012 We're planning a visit to Phil Lowe's shop in Beverly MA for the Lie-Nielsen Hand Tool Event on Saturday December 1st, 2012, followed by dinner/drinks at a nearby venue. Join the fun anytime Saturday afternoon to go play with the tools (and buy some, no doubt), and chat with the demonstrators before we set out for food around 5p. Here is the Link to the Lie-Nielsen event information. In it you'll find a list fantastic demonstrators they've lined up, as well as directions to the shop. Please feel free to forward this to anyone who may be interested in joining us for this event, or joining the MWA. Inaugural NJ and NY MWA Meet-up

A number of like-minded woodworkers who met at the recent Fine Woodworking Live event have decided to try and form another local MWA chapter in Northern NJ and NY (esp. for those too far from the Long Island Chapter.)

This first meeting is meant to help the group get up and running and to grab some bacon at a local diner before the coming Bacon Apocalypse.

Here are the particulars and apologies for the late notice.


When: September 29, 2012 @ 9am

Who: Most of us met at Fine Woodworking Live at SUNY New Platz but anyone is welcome to come

Why: We see a need for a group of passionate amateurs in the NJ and NY area.

What: Inaugural meeting of Modern Woodworkers of NJ & NY.

All are welcome (NOT just Boston chapter members, if you'll be in town, let me know!)

As usual, the meetup will occur during the event, and will likely continue at a local restaurant or watering hole.
